How can dry bones hear?

The Lord God carried Ezekiel to the valley of dry bones in the spirit. The Lord God commanded Ezekiel to prophesy to the dry bones, to speak to them. Yet, this begs the question: How can dry bones hear?

Ezekiel 37: 1-14

This scripture represents the revival of the whole house of Israel, the spiritual revival of the nation. It points to the resurrection and reunification of Israel and their covenant with Jesus Christ. However, there are spiritual implications to the text for Gentiles, like us, too.

The physical is subject to the spiritual. No moment, no event, no person, no object is devoid of spiritual influence.

The atoms, particles, substances that constitute what we physically experience with our senses (see, smell, taste, touch, hear) have to respond to the Creator because there are Word particles in them. They were created by the Word and respond to the Word. God said “Let there be…” and there was. From nothingness came creation. Everything that is, was created from what was unseen, invisible. Everything was created by the Word, from the Word, and through the Word.

Hebrews 11:3

Colossians 1:6

John 1:1

Words are spirit. There is a physical frequency to sound but there is also a spiritual frequency to sound, concurrently, that requires one's ears to hear. That defies the five senses and human logic because we are spiritual beings, created in the image of God who is spirit.

  • That is how dry bones can hear the Word of the Lord and live. Ezekiel 37:4
  • That is how you can hear the abundance of rain in the midst of drought. 1 Kings 18:41
  • That is how you can have hope in the face of disappointment. Romans 5:5
  • That is how we can have joy coexisting with grief. Isaiah 61:3
  • That is how we can lift a praise to God Almighty instead of wallowing in heaviness. Isaiah 61:3
  • That is how we can trust confidently in God despite uncertain circumstances. Job 13:15; Deuteronomy 7:9; 2 Thessalonians 3:3
  • That is how we can have the hope of glory pulling us forward instead of stopping to mourn the graves of buried dreams. Romans 5:2; Romans 8:11; Colossians 1:27
  • That is how we can agree with God that all is well knowing that God causes all things, even the painful things, even the difficult things, to work together for our good according to his purposes. Romans 8:28

We perceive in the spirit what cannot yet be detected by our natural experiences or sense.

1 Corinthians 2:10-15

Dry bones can hear. Dry bones can live. Allow the wind of God to breathe new life into your spirit, to revive you, to look at the valley of dry bones in your life and command them to live. It’s time to get up.
